Hurricane Readiness

LWRMC, which opened September, 2004, was built according to the stringent Dade County Guidelines Florida Building Code to withstand a Category 4 Hurricane. LWRMC is not located in a flood plain area.

Hurricane infrastructure at the hospital includes:

Hurricane impact glass
Concrete building over shell
Redundant commercial power sources
Emergency water storage
Ability to withstand winds up to 155 mph

Hospital staff will work closely with both Manatee and Sarasota County Emergency Operations Centers and other agencies and healthcare providers to address the health needs of the community during and after a storm. The hospital may cancel all elective surgeries and discharge as many non-critical patients as possible before a hurricane is expected to make landfall. A core team of staff and physicians will be on duty throughout the duration of the storm.

LWRMC is not a designated community, medical or special needs shelter. People with special or medical needs must identify designated shelters.
