Heart Disease in Women

Heart Health

Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States and accounts for one in three deaths among women each year, according to the American Heart Association. But 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events can be prevented if women make the right choices for their hearts. There are many ways to help your heart health, including:

  • Eating a healthy diet – Fruits, vegetables, fish, fiber-rich whole grains, nuts
  • Getting regular exercise – 30 minutes a day can get you on the right track
  • Managing blood pressure – Eating a diet that is low in salt, saturated fats, cholesterol and alcohol can help lower high blood pressure
