On November 17, 2019, the Village Idiots Cycling Club (VICC) hosted the sixth Annual Women on Wheels (WOW) cycling event at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center (LWRMC) and raised $3,500 for the LWRMC Auxiliary nursing scholarship fund. The event included 40-mile and 60-mile routes and was fully supported and sponsored by local businesses with all proceeds benefiting Girl’s Inc. and the LWRMC Auxiliary.

President of the LWRMC Auxiliary, Carole Cowan, stated, “The purpose of our fundraising activities is to raise money to support scholarships for students who are enrolled in nursing programs. We recognize that the health careers workforce of the future for our region is dependent on the quality of our graduates in these programs, and we want to support them as they earn their degrees. Our major fundraiser is the Jingle 5K, now in its eighth year.”

Village Idiots Cycling Club Executive Board Secretary and OB/GYN Women’s Centre of Lakewood Ranch Physician, Dr. Edgardo Aponte, added, “The Village Idiots Cycling Club is committed to initiatives that keep our community active and we are excited for our continued partnership with Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. The VICC is working hard to create a memorable experience for the women in our community and we are looking forward to awarding the 2020 Nursing Scholarships.”

Volunteer Coordinator for Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, Christina Soderberg, stated, “On behalf of LWRMC Volunteer Services and the LWRMC Auxiliary, THANK YOU for this donation for scholarships. This will be an immense help to individuals furthering their education in the healthcare system.”
